Sneak Peek of Our Heart
Only 8 Days until Our Heart is released to the world! I am so excited at the feedback I’m receiving from my ARC reviewers.
Sneak Peek
I pull up my phone and make ten calls to ten different hotels. Every single one of them has no availability. I bite at my thumbnail as a feeling in the pit of my stomach anchors me to my seat.
“They’re going to cancel us,” I mumble, watching the strained faces of the flight crew.
Grant’s jaw tightens as he gives just the slightest nod.
Just then, the flight attendant projects her voice into the PA across the terminal. “I’m sorry to inform you that American Flight 1243 direct from Philadelphia to Denver is canceled due to the snowstorm.” Gasps and curse words are uttered by the patrons surrounding us. “Please come up to the counter to reschedule or call American to get in touch with an agent. And please be patient. We are doing our best to work as fast as possible.”
Randall pops up. “I’ll get the tickets,” he says, taking the third spot in line.
I stand to join him when fingers wrap around my forearm. Grant’s hand belongs to those fingers. He pushes his chest against mine. My breath hitches as I look up.
In a low, authoritative voice, he says, “Get our things and stake out a spot for us in the corner over there.” He tilts his head in a direction to the right, but his eyes don’t leave mine, and I won’t allow mine to leave his. My brain is working slowly. What did he say?
“Get our things?” I murmur as his words slowly move through me.
“Shelly, we’re going to have to stay the night here. There is nowhere left to go. Randall can handle our tickets, and I’ll go stock up on food. You,”—he squeezes my arm as his eyes drift down my face, resting on my lips—“hold down the fort for us.” He lets me go. “Got it?”
I nod as my heart pounds in my ears and dizziness overwhelms me. Grant touched me. Grant spoke to me. Grant looked at me. Looked into me. Looked through me. I wanted it. I want more.
I want more?
