Jessie & Delia run into each other...
“I uh… I had a serious thing for you in high school. I was getting up the nerve to ask you to a dance and then you disappeared.”
I frowned, “Yeah, that’s a long story.”
He lowered his voice, his eyes focused intently on mine making the moment feel like we were the only people in the room, “But we’ve found each other. This is kismet.”
I shook my head and furrowed my brow, “Kismet?”
“Destiny, fate…” he murmured as his eyes traveled around my face. “I don’t want to miss my chance again. Can I take you out? Only one date to see if you live up to the hype in my head.”
From the corner of my eye, I saw my boss who impatiently tapped her foot on the ground.
“I have to get back to work. I get off at ten can you meet me here? Drive me home?”
“Yes!” he said, his voice high-pitched. “Yes,” he said lowering it, “I want to walk away sounding more manly than that.”
I laughed and saw my boss was still staring. “See you then,” I said and touched his arm as I went. I headed to one of my tables and looked back over my shoulder. He watched me the whole time and I know I’ll be mindful of every minute that passes until I’d got to see him again.

I always love when a new year approaches or birthdays because it forces me to pontificate on the last year from the lens of living it…
